About The Event

Workshop Description [EXPRESSIVE PORTRAIT WORKSHOP]

This workshop is designed for any experience level of artists or students who have worked in portrait drawing or painting across various mediums. Conducted in English, the program comprises instructor-led lectures, presentations, demonstrations, and constructive critiques. Zin Lim, the instructor, will delve into the 'expressionism' approach throughout the workshop.

During Zin's demonstrations and lectures, participants can seek clarification on materials, techniques, composition, and aesthetics, gaining comprehensive insights into the unique direction of art creation.

The workshop covers key themes and techniques, including materials and medium, composition, visual elements, expressionist mindset, moving beyond representation to expression, creating interesting strokes and textures, designing compelling portrait art, basic composition principles, and color schemes for painting sessions.

Participants will engage in hands-on exercises, creating multiple portraits from live models or provided reference photos (participants may also bring their own). While working on individual projects, Zin will offer timely feedback, mini demonstrations, and address any questions.

For beginning artists, the workshop offers insights into expressionist techniques in oil painting, basic proportions for painting the human head, step-by-step processes for efficient portrait construction, and guidance on continued skill improvement after the workshop.

Advanced/Intermediate artists can expect to broaden their perspective in portrait art, explore a stylistic shift from realism to expressionism or impressionism, and understand the keys to unique artwork stylization. The workshop also covers initiating and concluding an artwork effectively.
